The six stage financial planning process

When formulating a financial plan, ideally this is done in the context of your total financial situation, although we recognise that from time to time some clients would like advice on a focused area.

Stage 1: Discovery Meeting

The six stage financial planning process starts with a Discovery meeting to explore your financial goals and objectives as well as your unique values. We want to identify where you are now and where you want to be. Uncovering these values and goals forms the building blocks of your personalised financial plan. The meeting also provides an opportunity to ‘get to know’ one another and be comfortable to move forward together.

Stage 2: Gathering Data, Research and analysis

Once we understand your goals we carry out data gathering, research and detailed analysis to identify gaps and propose a strategy to help get you where you want to be.

Stage 3: Plan Presentation Meeting

At our second meeting we present your personalised financial plan and provide a jargon-free explanation of our recommendations. You have the opportunity to address any questions or queries which spring immediately to mind. As your trusted advisor we feel that it is important for you not to make quick decisions about your financial future, following the meeting you have the opportunity reflect on the recommendations without undue pressure.

Stage 4: Mutual Commitment Meeting

Our mutual commitment meeting usually takes place around seven to ten days later. At this meeting we address any more queries or concerns and then put the plan into action.

Stage 5: 45 Day Follow up Meeting

We feel it is important that our job doesn’t stop there, around six weeks after implementing your financial plan we have a 45 day follow up meeting where we review the work carried out and make sure everything is in place as expected. We also help to tidy up any paperwork you have received and check whether any new questions have arisen. Following this meeting you should feel confident about the plan and products you have in place as well as organised!

Stage 6: Regular Review Meeting

As our lives change, we feel that regular scheduled review meetings are critical to ensuring you stay on track towards your goals and objectives. Or perhaps set new goals in response to your evolving circumstances. Our Partnership service agreement provides more detail on what you can expect from your review meeting.
